ESPN projects two South Carolina basketball legends for 2028 Olympic rosters
By Kevin Miller
Shortly after the Olympic gold medal was put around the necks of Wilson and the rest of Team USA, ESPN released its projection for the United States Basketball Women's National Team's 2028 roster when Los Angeles hosts the Summer Olympics.
According to ESPN, the US should include two South Carolina Gamecocks on their 2028 squad as A'ja Wilson was joined by Aliyah Boston on the outlet's projection for the next Summer Olympics.
Wilson, who will turn 32 during the summer of 2028, should be in the latter years of her prime at the next Olympic Games. The Columbia native very well still could be the best player in the world at that time and will have a place on the team if she wants to compete.
Boston, who was not selected for this year's roster after being chosen for training camp, would take part in her first Olympics if chosen in 2028. Her game should translate to international competition well, and in her previous (non-Olympic) experience with the national team, that has been the case.
It is unclear who will be the Team USA head coach (or the assistant coaches, for that matter), and because the coaching staff are major factors in roster construction, the decision on who will lead Team USA will have a significant impact on which players make the roster.
The entire projected roster from ESPN is listed below:
Forward/Center A'ja Wilson
Forward/Center Aliyah Boston
Forward/Center Napheesa Collier
Forward/Center Angel Reese
Forward/Center Cameron Brink
Wing/Forward Breanna Stewart
