Deebo Samuel claps back at Micah Parsons, Cam Newton

South Carolina football alum Deebo Samuel has had it with criticism of his quarterback Brock Purdy this week, and he called out Micah Parsons and Cam Newton on Wednesday.

San Francisco 49ers star Deebo Samuel is tired of hearing people criticize his quarterback for a poor game. Brock Purdy, an MVP favorite before Christmas, had a 4-interception performance in what turned into a somewhat lopsided loss to the Baltimore Ravens, and many voices in the football world have had some hot takes about the quarterback. One of his top weapons came to his defense this week.

After Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons tweeted out some semi-veiled shade at Purdy and his performance, Samuel told Kay Adams on her UpandAdams show that he doesn't understand why Parsons is so concerned with the 49ers considering the '9ers beat the Cowboys 42-10 earlier this season.

Before even addressing Parsons' comments, though, Samuel had something to say to former NFL MVP Cam Newton. Newton was critical of several NFL starting quarterbacks last week, calling them "game managers," and Purdy was one of the names he mentioned. Deebo sent a message to Newton on Adams' show: "Cam Newton, stop texting my phone. You were a fan like two weeks ago...wanted me on your podcast after talking about my quarterback?!"

The 49ers are still very much in the race for the NFC's top seed. They share the same record as the Detroit Lions (11-4), but the tie breakers are not yet finalized as there are still two weeks left to play and the 49ers and Lions do not play in 2023. The top seed in the conference will receive a Bye through the Wild Card round.

Deebo Samuel is on his way to a probably Pro Bowl berth, which would be the second of his career. Despite missing two and a half games, Samuel has over 1000 yards of offense and 11 touchdowns with two games left on the schedule. He also set the all-time record for rushing touchdowns by a receiver this year by scoring the 19th time as a ball-carrier.
