Bronko Nagurski Trophy puts South Carolina football linebacker on preseason watch list
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football players Rocket Sanders (Maxwell Award/Offensive Player) and Hunter Rogers (Patrick Mannelly Award/Long Snapper) were included on preseason watch lists on Monday, and they were joined by another Gamecock on Tuesday.
The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is given annually to the top defensive player in college football and is named for Bronislaw "Bronko" Nagurski, a Chicago Bears and Minnesota Golden Gophers legend who is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame. Williams is one of 21 linebackers on the preseason watch list. The 2023 winner, Notre Dame Fighting Irish safety Xavier Watts, is also on the list.
Last year, after finishing in the top-3 in the SEC in solo tackles and total stops, Williams was an All-SEC performer and an Honorable Mention All-American. He has been included on several preseason All-SEC and All-American lists this summer, and if things go well for him this fall, he will hear his name called in the 2025 NFL Draft.
