Last season, Lamont Paris' South Carolina basketball team made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2016-2017 Final Four team. The Gamecocks also finished tied for 2nd in the SEC regular season standings and tied a program record for total wins (tying the Final Four squad).

Expectations in Columbia are higher than they have been in some time, and several individual Gamecock players have gotten major offseason love from college basketball analysts.

Sophomore forward Collin Murray-Boyles has had a number of outlets project him to be picked in the 1st round of the 2025 NBA Draft, with some of them even thinking the Columbia native will be selected in the top half of the draft.

However, though Murray-Boyles has gotten the most preseason buzz, another South Carolina basketball talent is on the NBA radar, as well.

Last week, On3 college basketball analyst Jamie Shaw included Gamecock wing Cam Scott as a "sleeper" who could work his way into the 1st round of the 2025 NBA Draft.

Scott has everything an NBA scout would look for in a shooting guard prospect. He has enough length (listed at 6'6" with a longer wingspan), athleticism, and shot-making ability to think that he could develop into a good scorer at the professional level. As a part-time point guard in high school, he also has better ballhandling ability and passing instincts than most off-ball freshmen.

A Lexington High School product, Scott is one of the highest-rated recruits ever to sign with the South Carolina basketball program. A high 4-star player, he has a very good chance of snagging one of the starting wing spots for USC this season.

Scott will be an important part of the 2024-2025 Gamecocks and will be counted on to provide some offensive punch and athletic defense for Coach Paris' team. If he is in the starting lineup at shooting guard, he will be part of one of the longest Carolina lineups in recent memory.

Other than point guard (5'11" Jamarii Thomas and 6'2" Jacobi Wright are the two favorites to land that starting gig), the Gamecocks will have plus-length at every spot. Scott (6'6") is believed by many to be the starter at the 2-guard spot, Myles Stute (6'6") and Zach Davis (6'8") are potential starters at the 3, Collin Murray-Boyles (6'7") will start at power forward, and Nick Pringle (6'10") is the favorite to win the center job.

Scott and the Gamecocks will begin their 2024-2025 season with a November 4th home contest against the North Florida Ospreys.
