South Carolina Football's Post-Bye Week Storylines to Watch:
Juice Wells
It is impossible to talk about the next game on the South Carolina football schedule without talking about Juice Wells.
As all Gamecock fans know, Wells was an All-SEC performer for the garnet and black in 2022 before things went off the rails in 2023. Wells had an offseason injury to his foot and then re-injured the foot early last fall. When cleared to return, the wide receiver elected not to play despite being one of the highest-paid NIL recipients on the team. Then, Wells came forward with an announcement of his intention to return for 2024. Less than two weeks after that declaration, Wells hit the transfer portal and didn't leave Columbia in the most gracious manner.
With the way things went down between Wells and the Gamecock fanbase, there is a real chance he receives the loudest boos any individual player has ever gotten at Williams-Brice Stadium next Saturday.
There is a sense of impending doom that many in the fanbase feel when playing against a former Gamecock (it doesn't help that Jermaine Couisnard had the best game of his career to eliminate the South Carolina basketball team from the NCAA Tournament and Michael Braswell beat the Gamecock baseball squad with a walk-off). To pull off the top-10 upset, the Gamecocks must reverse the "trend." Ole Miss is good enough on offense that points will be scored even if Wells is neutralized, so Carolina cannot afford to allow the Rebels' 2nd-leading receiver (behind Tre Harris) have a big day, too.
