Now that we are five weeks into the college football season, the true contenders and the pretenders are beginning to show themselves. The SEC, as always, is showing its dominance, with the Big Ten following behind like the little brother that just can't quite catch up yet.

Some teams fell out of the rankings this week, like Utah, who suffered their first loss of the season to Arizona while their starting quarterback Cam Rising continues to be on the sideline due to an injury that Kyle Whittingham just won't talk about.

However, one loss in a season is no longer the kiss of death it used to be for teams. The new 12-team playoff means we could see teams with two, possibly even three losses making in. it Teams can also have automatic bids for winning their conferences so even though a lot would have to happen, South Carolina could make it in with an automatic bid.

So with another week of football in the books, here is the latest College Football Playoff prediction from Garnet and Cocky.

There is a new No. 1 in town, and Alabama did everything right in order to get there. The Crimson Tide played in what most people are saying is the game of the year, if not the best college football game ever, against the Georgia Bulldogs. It seemed like Alabama was going to run away with it till the Bulldogs showed some fight in the second half to make it a game at the end. Alabama, however, was able to pull through to get the win.

The Big 12 has been completely shaken up, with the top three teams projected to win the conference having at least one loss. Kansas State right now is looking the best of the three with Utah struggling and Oklahoma State mathematically out of it with two losses.

Penn State makes an entrance into the rankings with a win over ranked Illinois and still being undefeated on the season. Ole Miss fell quite a bit in the rankings after a loss to unranked Kentucky at home in The Sip. Missouri also made their re-entrance into the rankings after being yet another undefeated team, although their leash is short, as they are still struggling, even in their wins.

UNLV comes in as the new Group of Five bid, as they are undefeated and doing better with their new quarterback after Matthew Sluka chose to redshirt for the rest of the season and will most likely transfer in the end due to NIL problems with the university. Even with all the drama this past week, the Rebels went out and destroyed Fresno State and looked like an even better team.
