The South Carolina Gamecocks are looking to go on the road and get another big win over the Oklahoma Sooners this week. The Gamecocks are underdogs on the road against Brent Venables' Sooners team.
While Garnet and Cocky did predict the Gamecocks to pull out a victory, there are other prediction metrics out there. One of those is ESPN's SP+, which is spearheaded by Bill Connelly.
Per ESPN, SP+ predicts how teams and games will go based on a variety of factors. "In a single sentence, it's a tempo- and opponent-adjusted measure of college football efficiency that I originally created at Football Outsiders in 2008," Connelly describes. "SP+ is intended to be predictive and forward-facing."
Let's take a look at how SP+ thinks South Carolina-Oklahoma will end up on Saturday afternoon.
South Carolina vs. Oklahoma prediction per SP+
South Carolina is the slightest of underdogs going on the road against the Sooners. SP+ has the final score of Oklahoma 25, South Carolina 23. Connelley also previewed the matchup during his Week 9 primer. Here's what he thinks of the matchup:
"It would be just like a Shane Beamer team to go on a run after looking so mediocre to start the season," Connelley writes. "Quarterback LaNorris Sellers was all-or-nothing against Tennessee, but the Vols' offense couldn't punish the "all"s enough. Can Oklahoma? Quarterback John Mateer is coming off his steadiest performance of the season. The winner still technically has playoff hopes."
Saturday's game between the Sooners and Gamecocks will kick off at 4:15 p.m. ET and air live on SEC Network. The game will mark just the second overall meeting between the two teams, as they have split the all-time series at one game a-piece.
Like the rest of college football fans, we'll just have to wait and see how it shakes out come kickoff on Saturday.
