South Carolina women's basketball will open up SEC play tonight against the Missouri Tigers, a team the Gamecocks have historically dominated. The Gamecocks have an 11-4 record against the Tigers and a 10-4 record against them since they joined the SEC back in 2012.
Dawn Staley's squad will not be at full strength tonight as they will be without talented freshman Maddy McDaniel. who missed South Carolina's non-conference finale against Wofford with a concussion. The Gamecocks will also be without senior center Sakima Walker, who also missed the game against Wofford. Walker is dealing with a nagging ankle injury.
This will be the Gamecocks first game of SEC play, a conference they were predicted to win before the season started. South Carolina is on a mission to be the first team to three-peat as National Champions since UConn did it back in the mid-2010s.
South Carolina played a lot of their bench players in their final non-conference games, so their starters should be fairly rested and ready to go. With the young players getting good experience, Staley has the ability to turn to her bench if she needs to.
