South Carolina men's basketball just took an unexpected hit on the recruiting trail. Class of 2026 guard Isaac Ellis has officially decommitted from the Gamecocks and announced he will reclassify to the class of 2027, per multiple posts Ellis shared across social media on Monday evening.

Ellis, a 6-foot standout from Moravian Prep and a rising name, was originally committed to South Carolina earlier this year. He was set to join his older brother, four-star signee Eli Ellis, in Columbia as part of Lamont Paris’ growing pipeline of perimeter scorers. His original commitment to the Gamecocks stood out not only for his production but for the potential dynamic of pairing up with his brother. At the time, Isaac spoke openly about how meaningful that connection was:

“To play in the SEC with my brother, that’s something I never imagined would happen. It’s a blessing. I’m the type of player who will do whatever it takes to win… South Carolina fans, get ready for the best brother duo in college basketball. A lot of threes and a lot of winning.”

Now, the timeline for the younger Ellis has been reset. With the announcement today, that vision is on hold, and South Carolina will have to recalibrate its long-term recruiting outlook. Ellis is expected to draw interest from a wide national range of programs after reopening his recruitment, including schools that were in the mix previously. Some of those programs include Oklahoma State, Murray State, UMass, among others.

For now, one of the most intriguing young guards in the country is back on the market, and the 2027 recruiting class just got a major jolt.
