The South Carolina defense just made a meaningful roster upgrade on the interior line. Georgia transfer Jordan Thomas, a 6-foot-5, 315-pound defensive tackle, has committed to the Gamecocks after visiting campus, first reported by GamecockCentral. Thomas is a former four-star standout from Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, N.J., who was firmly on South Carolina’s recruiting radar coming out of high school. The Gamecocks did not hesitate to lock him in once he hit the Transfer Portal.
From Georgia to Columbia: A Strategic Move
Originally part of the Georgia Bulldogs’ 2024 recruiting class, Thomas’s journey hasn’t been a straight line. After signing with Georgia as a coveted four-star and one of New Jersey’s top recruits, he saw limited action in two seasons. Thomas made eight game appearances with six tackles, two tackles for loss, and a sack while logging 64 defensive snaps.
With three years of eligibility left, Thomas decided to enter the portal to elevate his role, ultimately deciding to make a legitimate impact in Gamecock football. South Carolina is in need of depth on both sides of the ball, and swooped in with an offer, securing his commitment.
What Thomas Brings to the Table
Thomas is elite in size and length. At 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, Thomas has the physicality to make a difference on the field. Multiple services have ranked him as one of the top defensive tackle prospects nationally. He had a strong showing across Rivals, 247Sports, and ESPN during his high school career. Even with limited reps at Georgia, Thomas has a leg up on portal transfer with his SEC experience.
A player like Thomas, previously buried behind NFL-caliber talent in Athens, can still be a difference-maker across the SEC for a program with a clear need. And with South Carolina set to host Georgia in 2026, it adds a subplot worth watching: the ex-Bulldog wearing Garnet and Black across from his former team.
