Former South Carolina standout A'ja Wilson continues to prove that she is the best women's basketball player on the planet. The Gamecock legend and current Las Vegas Aces superstar has been nominated for not one, but two, ESPY Awards following a historic 2024 WNBA season. The annual award presented by ESPN will feature Wilson as a finalist for two award categories: Best Athlete in Women's Sports and Best WNBA Player.

Dominating the League

The ESPY Award nominations for Wilson come as no surprise. Her 2024 season was nothing short of historic as she averaged 26.9 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.6 blocks, 2.3 assists, and 1.8 steals. Wilson also shot 52% from the field and 84% from the free throw line. Of course, that is all while leading the WNBA in nearly every single major statistical category. She broke league records for Total Points (1,021), Total Rebounds (451), Points Per Game (26.9), and Single Game Points (53).

Wilson also recently became the first player in WNBA history to surpass 1,000 points and 450 rebounds in a single season. She not only broke records but lead the league in points, rebounds, blocks, and was the only athlete to average at least 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game.

Off the Court and Around the Globe

Wilson has more than shown her impact on the court, but off the court, she has been a shining star for the community as well. She earned the Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award for her selfless contributions off the court. She has continued the effort to uplift communities through education, mental health support, and social advocacy.

Wilson also repped her country by suiting up for Team USA during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where she led the American team to another gold medal, while also earning both Olympic MVP and Olympic Starting Five honors.

The Wilson Legacy Continues

This marks Wilson's second straight year earning ESPY nominations in both major categories. Last year, she won Best WNBA Player and Best Athlete in the Women's Sports category. With her legacy still growing and a dominant season under her belt in the pros, Wilson remains the face of the WNBA, and one of the most influential athletes not only in women's sports, but all sports.

The 2025 ESPY Awards will be held on July 16 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, airing live on ABC at 8:00 PM ET.
