The South Carolina Gamecocks might be tipping off the 2026-27 season in a few months. But head coach Dawn Staley added another talented prospect just in the nick of time. The Gamecocks landed a verbal commitment from guard Brooke Quarles Daniels, who spent the last two seasons with the Michigan Wolverines.
Daniels started her career at Oakland before transferring to Ann Arbor for her last two years. At Oakland, she had a successful two seasons with the Golden Grizzlies. Her best season as a sophomore in 2023-24, she led Oakland in scoring with 13.6 points per game, also getting 6.6 rebounds and another 2.3 steals a game.
Since Daniels started her collegiate career in 2022, she is one of several athletes who have been granted an additional year of eligibility for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
At Michigan, her best season with the Wolverines came last year as a senior. She averaged 5.9 points a game with another 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists. On defense, she had 2.5 steals a game. Michigan had a huge season last year, finishing 28-7 overall with a 15-3 mark in the Big Ten. The Wolverines earned a No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, and made it to the Elite Eight for just the second time in program history.

“Brooke’s wealth of experience will help us right away, as will her combination of skill and toughness,” Coach Staley said in a statement. “She is a proven winner and a high-level competitor who will bring immediate value to our team.”
During Michigan's deep run in the postseason, Daniels had a great performance, averaging 7.3 points per game with 6.8 rebounds and three assists, shooting an impressive 52.4% from the floor. She also averaged 2.8 steals per game, too.
Daniels should be a great addition to South Carolina's roster, as Gamecock guard Maddy McDaniel announced she was leaving the program last month. She joins a rotation expected to include returning starters in Joyce Edwards, Tessa Johnson and Chloe Kitts, as well as fellow transfer Jordan Lee from Texas. South Carolina also signed big-time freshmen in Jerzy Robinson, Oliviyah Edwards and Kelsi Andrews.
South Carolina will open the 2026 season on Nov. 2 with a game against Maryland in Paris. Before the regular season tips off, the Gamecocks will also play a pair of exhibition games in September in Charleston.
