It's not often that you see former college players suit up together and play on the same team, especially at the professional level. But for the WNBA's Indiana Fever, there are four former South Carolina Gamecocks on the roster.
The Fever have four players who suited up for Dawn Staley in the garnet and black, including Aliyah Boston, Ty Harris, Bree Hall and rookie Raven Johnson. Indiana head coach Stephanie White, said that having all four former Gamecocks on the roster can be extremely helpful at times, especially from a chemistry standpoint.
"I think it helps because they can communicate with each other and hold each other accountable in a different way,” White said in a recent Fever feature highlighting the four players. “They can understand the nuance of what one another is going through, so if I can’t tell what Raven’s thinking, AB can, or Bree Hall can, or Ty can."
“It’s just unique to be able to play with people that you played with in college,” White continued. “And I think that their chemistry, their communication, their understanding of one another is helpful.”
The Fever are led by Boston, who is in her fourth WNBA season in 2026. She was named an All-Star earlier this month, and is having the best season of her career. So far this season at the halfway mark, she is averaging a career-high 17.1 points per game with another 8.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. She was a first-round pick by the Fever in 2023, after helping lead the Gamecocks to their second national title in 2022. Before this season, she signed a historic contract extension with Indiana that made her the highest-paid player in league history, second to fellow South Carolina star A'ja Wilson.
Elsewhere on Indiana's roster, Harris is averaging 4.9 points per game with 1.2 boards per game. She has been in the league since 2020, spending her career mostly with the Dallas Wings and Connecticut Sun. She was a freshman when South Carolina won their first-ever national title in 2017.
Hall was drafted just last season in the second round. Across her first two seasons with the Fever and Golden State Valkyries, she has played in just six games so far. And Johnson is a rookie who is surely loving learning from Boston and the three other former Gamecocks.
She was drafted in the first round by the Fever 10th overall, and has played in 26 games this season. She is currently averaging 3.9 points per game with 2.2 boards per game.
As the Fever enter the back half of the WNBA season, Indiana is 18-10, and sitting atop the Eastern Conference. With this team's Gamecock mentality, the Fever are a real threat to win their first league title since 2012.
