Atlanta is acquiring 23-year-old guard Devin Carter (6'2", 195), who averaged 8.9 PPG, 3.3 RPG and 2.7 APG in 38 games last season, along with a future second-round pick, per @ShamsCharania.

Carter was drafted by the Kings in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft, getting selected No. 13 overall. He spent the last two seasons in Sacramento, playing in 36 games as a rookie, although he saw several games with the team's G-League Stockton affiliate.Â
But he is coming off of his most productive season yet in Sacramento, during which he started in 33 games for the Kings, and averaged 19.7 points per game with 8.7 rebounds, including 3.6 assists. In Atlanta, he will join a Hawks squad that replaced star guard Trae Young in January, who landed with the Washington Wizards.Â
Although the Hawks made it to the postseason for the first time in two seasons, Atlanta saw a first-round exit to the New York Knicks. With the Hawks, Carter will join a starting lineup featuring Jalen Johnson, C.J. McCollum and Nickeill Alexander-Walker. He will be coached by fourth-year head coach Quin Snyder.
Although Carter was drafted by the Kings out of Providence, he started his college basketball career at South Carolina. As a true freshman in 2021-22, he played in 30 games with seven starts. He averaged nine points per game and 3.8 rebounds. He opted to transfer after the Gamecocks fired head coach Frank Martin.Â
Carter, who played his senior high school basketball season in Doral, Fla., will get to continue his NBA career geographically closer than where it started in Columbia.Â
Congrats to Carter on the new deal, and welcome to Atlanta!Â
