Deebo Samuel, the versatile wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers and former South Carolina Gamecock, has been traded to the Washington Commanders in exchange for a fifth-round NFL draft pick. However, the 49ers cannot officially trade Samuel until the new league year, which begins on March 12. This comes after Samuel requested a trade after last season, which was confirmed as of last week.

During six seasons with the 49ers, Samuel played 81 regular games, accumulating 334 receptions for 4,792 yards and 22 touchdowns. Just last season, he recorded 51 receptions for 670 yards and three touchdowns, in addition to 42 rushes for 136 yard and one score.

"It was a hard conversation to have with Kyle [Shanahan] because of the relationship that we have," Samuel said earlier this month, via ESPN. "But I have to do what's best. I'm more than thankful for the Niners giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, but now I think it's best that we find another team."

Samuel was one of most talented wide receivers to grace the field of Williams-Brice Stadium for the Gamecocks. He finished his college career with an impressive 148 catches for 2,076 yards, 28 touchdowns- 16 receiving, seven rushing, four kickoff returns, and one fumble recovery. He even threw a touchdown pass himself.
