Former Gamecock Captain Munnerlyn named head coach at Julius Chambers High School

Former South Carolina Gamecocks star and NFL cornerback Captain Munnerlyn has been appointed as the head football coach at Julius Chambers High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Munnerlyn brings a wealth of experience from his collegiate and professional playing career to his new role.

Captain Munnerlyn, a former South Carolina Gamecocks standout and NFL cornerback, has been appointed as the head football coach at Julius Chambers High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. This opportunity allows him to mentor young athletes and impart the discipline and skills he acquired during his professional career.

During his tenure at the University of South Carolina from 2006 to 2008, Munnerlyn made a significant impact on the football program. As a freshman in 2006, he played in 11 games, recording season-high five tackles in two of them. In 2007, he served as both a nickel back and return specialist, earning All Southeastern Conference (SEC) honors. Elevated to starting cornerback in 2008, he continued to excel, notably returning a kickoff 84 yards and a blocked field goal 81 yards against Kentucky.

Following his collegiate success, Munnerlyn was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He enjoyed a 10-year NFL career, including stints with the Minnesota Vikings and a return to the Panthers. Throughout his professional journey, Munnerlyn was known for his confidence, toughness, and leadership on the field.

Transitioning into coaching, Munnerlyn spent two seasons as a volunteer coach at Myers Park High School in Charlotte. His passion for mentoring young athletes and his desire to instill discipline and structure in their lives led him to accept the head coaching position at Chambers High School. He aims to leverage his experiences to inspire and guide his players toward success both on and off the field.
