The South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball team and head coach Dawn Staley are rebuilding for a big season in 2026-27. Although the Gamecocks fell short against UCLA in the national title game this past season, there was a lot to be proud of during the season.
On Wednesday, South Carolina officially announced that the Gamecocks led the nation in attendance average for home games. According to the school's official release, South Carolina averaged 15,368 fans during each home game during the 2025-26 season.

Perhaps most impressively, this marks the 12th time that the Gamecocks have led the nation in average attendance. South Carolina started the streak during the 2014-15 season, when the Gamecocks averaged 12,293 fans per home game.
South Carolina also had nine of the biggest 10 crowds this season in women's college basketball, led by the sellout against then-No. 17 Ole Miss Rebels on Feb. 22. The Gamecocks won that game 85-48, and won a share of the SEC regular-season title.
But there is a bit of a caveat on the official 12 times the Gamecocks have been leaders. The streak also includes numbers from the 2020-21 COVID season. Since the NCAA didn't officially calculate attendance figures that year, the Gamecocks are technically officially tied with Tennessee, which had an NCAA-record 11 straight seasons leading in attendance. The Lady Vols have led as attendance leaders a whopping 19 times in their program history.
It's safe to say Coach Staley and her Gamecocks will have no problems leading the streak in 2026-27. South Carolina is having one heck of a rebuilding offseason, as the Gamecocks have landed the likes of talented prospects like Jordan Lee via Texas from the transfer and former five-star Tennessee signee Oliviyah Edwards.
The Gamecocks also didn't have a single player enter the transfer portal this season, and will return talented players including Joyce Edwards, Tessa Johnson, Maddy McDaniel and Agot Makeer.
I think Gamecock fans will be more than ready to pack the stands at Colnial Life Arena once the season tips off in November.
