In a bit of a surprise in the 2026 NFL Draft, South Carolina defensive tackle Nick Barrett went ahead of safety Jalon Kilgore, going with the No. 145 pick overall to the Los Angeles Chargers.

He was the second Gamecock to be selected during the draft, as cornerback Brandon Cisse went in the third round to the Green Bay Packers.

With Barrett's selection, he now gets to start his NFL career, and is due for a significant pay raise in Los Angeles. The fine folks at Sportrac have detailed each and every rookie contract for picks taken in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Per Sportrac, Barrett is expected to sign a four-year deal worth a total value of $4,788,124. It also includes a signing bonus of $543,124, with his Year One salary of $1,020,781.

In Los Angeles, Barrett joins a Chargers defense that features star linebacker Khalil Mack, defensive end Justin Eboigbe, defensive tackle Jamaree Caldwell and veteran defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson, who signed over free agency.

He also joins a rookie draft class that includes big defensive names in EDGE rusher Akeem Mesidor out of Miami and safety Genesis Smith from Arizona.

Congrats to Barrett on his new deal with the Chargers!
