South Carolina didn't make the College Football Playoff, and they already get that reminder every time they see a commercial for it, listen to a sports show, or watch any sort of football game. The last thing the Gamecocks want to hear is another coach calling them out for complaining about not making it into the CFP.
In his most recent College Football Playoff press conference, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian talked about not overlooking Arizona State because they are more than capable of pulling off an upset over Texas, even though they are the higher-seeded team.
In his statement about the game against Arizona State, Sarkisian found time to take a shot at teams that were close to making the playoffs but just missed it, like South Carolina.
"You just don't get to take a week off because the moment you do, you can get beat, and we've seen it, right?" Sarkisian said in his Monday press conference. "We've seen it across the board. We got a lot of teams complaining that they didn't get into the College Football Playoff, but they stubbed their toe along the way as well."
Should someone remind the new SEC coach that Texas didn't have a perfect season and stubbed their toe along the way as well? The Longhorns didn't play nearly as tough of a schedule as South Carolina did in 2024.
South Carolina faced seven ranked opponents, five ranked in the Top 16, this season, going 4-3 against them, while Texas faced five ranked teams, just two ranked in the Top 16, and went 4-1 against them, the same number of ranked wins.
Texas also lost to Georgia twice during the season, one of them being in the SEC Championship that would have given the Longhorns a bye and wouldn't have them playing Arizona State right now. So before Sarkisian goes and talks about teams not making it in because they lost games, someone should remind him that he didn't have a perfect season either.
