The San Fransisco 49ers went from being in the Super Bowl last season and losing to the Kansas City Chiefs to now being 5-5 on the season and have struggled with numerous injuries throughout the season, including some to star wide receiver and former South Carolina wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
Samuel has dealt with injury throughout his whole career and has only had one season oof ver 1,000 receiving yards. In the 2024 season so far, Samuel would probably say this has been the worst in his six-year career. In the nine games he has played this season, Samuel has 33 receptions for 490 yards and just one touchdown on the season.
The media has noticed Samuel's down season, and one legendary 49ers wide receiver has also taken notice. Terrell Owens, who started his career with the 49ers, talked on 95.7 The Game's "The Morning Roast" about Samuel this season, and he didn't hold back.
"Deebo is not really playing up to Deebo's standards," Owens said on the radio show. "Deebo, it seems like he's more focused on his pregame attire than he is actually the game. So again, if we can shift that focus, maybe that can energize and create some more production from an offensive standpoint. Just kind of tongue in cheek with that."
Samuel saw what Owens said and decided to respond on social media.
Owens didn't feel like Samuel was living up to his potential this season, and while it is fair to point that out, Samuel probably wishes he would have just had more of a private conversation with him instead of blasting it on a radio show.
Samuel probably knows he isn't having the best season of his career this year, but the Niners have also dealt with a lot of injuries this season on the team as a whole. Samuel hasn't been as effective in the run game as he has been known to be in the past, but he still is a top wide receiver in the league, and he has seven games left this season to prove that.
