The South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball team has officially landed their first member of the 2027 recruiting class. Five-star point guard Taylor Brown, out of Glen Head, N.Y. has verbally committed to South Carolina.

She chose the Gamecocks over her final schools in Tennessee and North Carolina, which were her final two schools.

“This is a pretty hard decision," Brown said via Gamecock Central. "But with that being said, I will be continuing my academic career at the University of South Carolina.”

Brown is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 2 point guard in the 2027 class, and the No. 1 overall rated player out of her home state of New York. ESPN rates her as the No. 30 overall prospect for 2027, 247 has her even higher at 20th overall.

She took a visit to Columbia the weekend of Sept. 18, along with fellow Gamecock targets in Jordyn Palmer and point guard Jezelle “GG” Banks.

The five-star point guard is a talented prospect in the 2027 class, although she has been rehabbing back from a knee injury she suffered in February. According to ESPN, Taylor averaged 12.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists on the Nike EYBL circuit, playing for the Exodus NYC.

Of course, this is hopefully just the start of South Carolina's 2027 class, which will include some big-time recruits. But for Staley, she proved that missing out on 4-star Kaylor Buse last month wasn't as big of a let-down as some fans initially thought.  Perhaps Staley can get another commitment in the coming weeks to add to the class.

When she arrives on-campus next fall, Brown will likely be one of the few true point guards that South Carolina will have on the roster, so this was much-needed for Staley to land.

Congrats to Taylor on the commitment, and welcome home to Columbia!
