There is no doubt that LaNorris Sellers will be one of the most-watched players in college football at the start of the 2025 season. Sellers finished the season on a red-hot streak, not only with his passing ability but his aggressive running ability at the quarterback position.
Sellers finished his first season as a starter with 2,534 passing yards, 18 passing touchdowns, and seven interceptions, all of this while missing a game and a half with an ankle injury. Sellers again was great in the rushing game as well, with 674 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.
With spring practices getting ready to start up soon, CBS has just released their latest college football quarterback rankings, and the South Carolina quarterback certainly got some love.
Sellers was ranked the No. 7 quarterback in the country according to CBS, and was the No. 3 ranked SEC quarterback after Texas quarterback Arch Manning, who was No. 1, and LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who was ranked No. 6 just ahead of Sellers.
CBS said the biggest thing for Sellers is making sure he continues to develop as a passer and not just focus on his rushing ability. This is a story that has been written many times for rushing quarterbacks, and it never seems to end well in college football. CBS even said that Sellers could be like one quarterback who has had a lot fo success lately in the NFL, none other than Jalen Hurts.
Hurts was certainly seen as more of a rushing quarterback, even in his early years with the Philadelphia Eagles, but he has improved his passing game over the years, so much so that it helped him beat Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl this year.
With the defense taking a hit from the transfer portal and eligibility, Sellers will certainly need to take a step forward this season for the Gamecocks, which means setting that ceiling high and reaching for it.
