Although it's been a few days since the postgame fireworks between South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley and UConn's Geno Auriemma. But that doesn't exactly mean the headlines around the two have died down.Â
On Sunday, after South Carolina's 79-51 loss to UCLA in the national championship game, Staley told reporters she had not heard from Auriemma personally.
As expected, several reporters and pundits have weighed in on the matter. One of those is Candace Parker. Parker, a former Tennessee and WNBA superstar, is now an analyst for Prime Video's WNBA and NBA coverage. Parker was asked about what went down between Auriemma and Staley, and suggested it isn't too surprising to her:Â
"In time, you see people's colors over and over again," Parker said via CBS Sports. "And there can be a separation of time with that, but the colors always come to light. I think colors were shown yesterday on both sides, right? However you want to take that."Â
Parker was selected as a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame 2026 class just this past weekend. While Parker does say colors were shown on both sides, you can argue that she is more so referring to Coach Auriemma here. Auriemma had a long-standing feud with Parker's head coach at Tennessee, Pat Summit.Â
During a recent podcast appearance discussing the subject, Parker admitted that it will "be really awkward" covering his team in some of the coaches' meetings ahead of college broadcasts, but added that she can be a professional.Â
Parker herself has her own history with Coach Auriemma. As head coach of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Auriemma opted to leave Parker off of the roster. She publicly suggested that the decision was due to the fact that the two don't like each other. Â
We'll see if any more storylines emerge from the Staley-Auriemma drama.Â
