This week, the Gamecocks welcome back one of its most dazzling alumnae: Armani Latimer. The former Carolina Dance Team captain and recently retired Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader made a triumphant return to Columbia to choreograph a special football timeout performance for the current dance squad.

Latimer's journey to stardom is a true homegrown success story. She was raised in Anderson, South Carolina and began dancing at the age of 3 and never looked back. From leading the varsity cheer team and being crowned Miss Westside at her high school to taking the field in garnet and black as a Carolina student, Latimer has made her mark as a leader and performer.

After Latimer graduated with a degree in criminology and criminal justice, she decided to launch her professional dance career in a big way. She earned a much-coveted spot on the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and went on to serve five standout seasons with "America's Team." Latimer rose to the prestigious position of first group and was honored as a DCC All-Star for her excellence on and off the field. But her impact went far beyond the iconic white boots.

In Season 2 of the Netflix series America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Latimer was featured as a leader, choreographer, and an advocate for others. She openly shared her journey with hereditary alopecia, even taking the field without her wig during the team's "My Cause, My Boots" game to raise awareness and inspire others.

"I just knew I wanted to help and effect change in some type of way," she told PEOPLE in June. "And I think I did that."

Latimer also used her platform as a pro cheerleader to speak out about fair compensation, joining several fellow cheerleaders in pushing for improved treatment and pay, a theme that resonates deeply with viewers cross the country during the series.

With white boots and sparky blue uniforms dazzling under the stadium lights, Latimer also managed to balance a full-time job as a law firm billing director and began studying for the LSAT, continuing her education and dedication to growth and leadership.

From inspiring little girls with her story to mentoring the next generation of Gamecock dancers, Armani Latimer is proof that passion and purpose can take you far, from the biggest stages and right back to your roots.
