The South Carolina Gamecock head coach Lamont Paris has landed his first verbal commit to his 2027 class. The Gamecocks landed a verbal commitment from four-star small forward Frashad Tisby, just days after he took an official visit to Columbia this past weekend.

This is a big pick-up for Paris and company, as Tisby as rated as the No. 8 overall prospect from his home state of Georgia. He plays high school basketball out of Cross Creek High School in Augusta, Ga. Tisby's hometown sits just 75 miles southwest of Columbia.
In a recent interview with Gamecocks 247, Tisby said that anytime he is on-campus at South Carolina, he feels like he is at home.
"As soon as I stepped back on campus, it felt like home again," Tisby told the outlet. "I have been to campus a bunch of times. Coach Paris has been the only consistent coach who has been with me since he offered me. Their consistency, along with me stepping back on campus and it feeling like home, made it the best decision for me."
Tisby is rated per the 247Sports Composite as the No. 81 overall player in his class, and the No. 20 small forward. South Carolina was the first power-conference school to offer Tisby back in June 2025 after his sophomore season.
He also has offers from the likes of Clemson, Florida State, Mississippi State and Auburn. But there were some northern schools who were competing for his services. He also took visits earlier this month to both Harvard and Yale, and went on-campus to visit Marquette over the summer.
In August, he had narrowed down his list of finalists to seven final schools, including South Carolina, Marquette, Florida State, UAB, Harvard, Yale and Arizona State.
But in the end, the Gamecocks won out for the talented small forward out of nearby Georgia. Tisby is the first verbal commit to South Carolina's 2027 class, so perhaps Coach Paris can get a few more before the 2026-27 season tips off later this fall.
Across two seasons tracked by MaxPreps, he averaged 9.2 points per game with four rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He is listed as 6-foot-6, 190 pounds.
