South Carolina Football Offseason Autopsy, Offensive Superlatives:
Offensive Top Newcomer(s)

Several new Gamecocks were big-time contributors to the South Carolina football roster. Transfer tight ends Trey Knox and Josh Simon, transfer running back Mario Anderson, and freshmen linemen Tree Babalade and Tro Baugh were the most impactful of these new players.

While a good argument can be made for Mario Anderson here, the way things have gone over the last week with Anderson departing the program via the transfer portal, a different direction will be taken with this pick.

The combined effort of Trey Knox and Josh Simon means that the two tight ends will split the award.

Knox and Simon combined for 65 catches and just under 600 yards receiving this season (they were 2nd and 4th on the team in receiving yards and 2nd and 3rd in catches).

Knox was adept at finding soft spots in opposing coverages, leading him to finish 2nd on the team in 1st down receptions. Simon had some really angry catch-and-run plays, and he was also a really nice blocker for the Gamecocks, offering some added pass protection at times and a good point-of-attack leader in the run game.

The Carolina offense looked its best in 12-personnel situations when both Knox and Simon were on the field together. With Knox graduating, the Gamecocks won’t have #1 and #6 together next year, but some recent good news came in the form of Josh Simon announcing a return for a 6th year.
