South Carolina football fans have been waiting expectantly since the start of this past weekend. A long list of impact transfer portal players were visiting the Gamecock program, and word from inside the building was that most of the players had a really good time checking out the facilities.
Shortly after the Simmons news went public, Beamer was back on social media to announce that a second player had made the decision to wear garnet and black next fall.
As the fanbase was fired up and full of speculation, it was a good thing that it didn’t take long for the second commitment to go public.
Later in the afternoon, Coastal Carolina defection Jared Brown told On3’s Pete Nakos that he would be shutting down his recruitment to commit to the South Carolina football program.
Brown is a talented wide receiver who can do a little bit of everything. He can play outside as evidenced by his role as one of Coastal’s top wideouts. He can play inside as a possession slot receiver. And he can carry the ball on jet sweeps and other gadget plays.
He is a home run threat, as well, having enough speed to earn multiple 40-yard explosive plays each of the past two seasons.
With so much attrition at the wide receiver position for the Gamecocks, adding a potential impact player like Brown was much-needed for offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains as he heads into his second year in the program (and first without quarterback Spencer Rattler and wide receiver Xavier Legette).
It would be foolish to think that Brown could fill the whole void left by outgoing players Xavier Legette (NFL), Ahmarean Brown (NFL), and Juice Wells (transfer portal), but adding the Georgia native to the roster certainly helps the Gamecocks get closer to doing just that.
Barring something unforeseen, Brown will not be the final wide receiver taken in USC’s transfer portal class.
You can watch one of his most impressive displays of speed here.
