After going 2-0 in two hard-fought games against Tobacco Road rivals North Carolina and Duke, Dawn Staley’s South Carolina basketball team returned home for a game against Morgan State.

Prior to the game, the Gamecocks honored legendary South Carolina basketball fan Carlton Thompson (who passed away that morning) with a reserved seat draped with his signature Gamecock flag.

When the game against the Bears started, the Gamecocks got off to a really fast start, and the halftime score stood 51-12.

USC cruised to the 104-38 victory. Tessa Johnson and MiLaysia Fulwiley led the way with 16 and 14 points, respectively, and four more (Te-Hina Paopao, Kamilla Cardoso, Sania Feagin, and Raven Johnson) scored in double-figures.

Chloe Kitts led the way with 14 rebounds, and five Gamecocks (Te-Hina Paopao, Raven Johnson, Chloe Kitts, Bree Hall, and MiLaysia Fulwiely) had at least 3 assists each.

As a team, Dawn Staley’s South Carolina basketball squad shot 41-60 from the field and every Gamecock who took a shot managed to hit at least 50% of those attempts.

It was a great showing from a great team, and the Gamecocks will look to roll their success over into their next game, a top-12 matchup with the Utah Utes in Connecticut at the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Basketball Showcase.
