South Carolina football fans have been monitoring the recruitment of Quaysheed Scott pretty closely. The Marion, South Carolina product has been committed to the Kentucky Wildcats since this summer, but the Gamecocks have started pursuing the talented athlete in recent months.

Scott has been rated both as a 3-star athlete, a 3-star cornerback, and a 3-star safety at different times during his high school career, but he is expected to play somewhere in the defensive backfield at the college level.

Over the weekend, Quaysheed Scott got a nice bump up in the recruiting rankings. According to On3, the class of 2024’s 5th-best player in the state is now a 4-star prospect.

Scott is now ranked ahead of South Carolina football commitments Kam Pringle (4-star OL) and Blake Franks (3-star OL) in On3’s rankings, and he is behind only Gamecock pledges Josiah Thompson (5-star OL), Kelvin Hunter (4-star S), and Mazeo Bennett (4-star WR) and Tennessee commitment/Gamecock flip target Braylon Staley (4-star WR).

Scott is a fast-twitch player who has great acceleration that helps make up for average speed in the secondary. He has very good ball skills, as well, something that he demonstrated in high school while playing wide receiver, running back, and quarterback as his team’s top overall weapon.

The Gamecocks already have several defensive backs committed in the class of 2024. 4-star athlete/cornerback Jalewis Solomon, 4-star cornerback Braydon Lee, 4-star safety Kelvin Hunter, and 3-star safety/linebacker David Bucey have all pledged their services to the South Carolina football program.

Defensive backs coach Torrian Gray likes versatile DBs who can play multiple positions, and Scott fits that mold. With experience at both corner and safety, he would get cross-trained at both spots (and would probably play some nickel, as well) if he were to end up in garnet and black.

It is worth noting that Scott is the cousin of current South Carolina football defensive tackle TJ Sanders.
