South Carolina Basketball: Gamecock commitment went OFF at showcase
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina basketball has the top-ranked class in the country in 2025. It is very early in the process, of course, but the Gamecocks’ two 4-star commitments are the most in all of college basketball in next year’s cycle.
Forward Hayden Assemian was the first prospect to pledge his services to head coach Lamont Paris and the South Carolina basketball program, and combo guard Eli Ellis joined him a few weeks later.
Ellis is one of the most famous players in the class of 2025. His social media presence and on-court ability have earned him over 1,000,000 total followers across Instagram and TikTok. However, his game is what Gamecock fans are most interested in seeing. Thankfully for the garnet and black faithful, Ellis has plenty of that, as well.
The 6’0″ guard is extremely skilled with the ball in his hand. As a shooter, he has almost unlimited range and even more confidence in his ability to knock down the shot. He is an excellent ball-handler, and his craftiness as a finisher helps make up for his lack of elite size or athleticism.
Ranked inside the top-100 by three of the four major recruiting services, Ellis is a consensus 4-star prospect and is rated as high as the 9th-best point guard in the country (247Sports).
Over the weekend, Eli Ellis went off in the Good Guys vs. Cancer showcase. Ellis dropped 34 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists for his Moravian Prep team. South Carolina basketball coach Lamont Paris was courtside to watch his future player.
South Carolina basketball fans still have to wait a while before Ellis suits up in garnet and black, so watching the high school junior dominate against some of the other best players in the country will have to suffice for now.
Ellis’ younger brother Isaiah is a class of 2026 prospect.
