South Carolina Football: Several Gamecocks confirm their intent to enter transfer portal
By Kevin Miller
Over the last week, a long list of South Carolina football players have been reported as being on their way to the transfer portal. Zavier Short, O’Mega Blake, D’Andre Martin, Kylic Horton, Felix Hixon, Landon Samson, Mitch Jeter, Juice Wells, Tanner Bailey, Colten Gauthier, and Donovan Westmoreland all had their names leaked as players who are on their way out of the program.
On Friday and Saturday, some of those names confirmed their intention to transfer.
EDGE/Linebacker Donovan Westmoreland was the first player reported as a likely transfer, and on Saturday, he confirmed those reports with a graphic posted online.
Quarterback Tanner Bailey was one of the earlier transfer announcements, and he was the first to make things public with a graphic and message for South Carolina football fans.
Fellow quarterback Colten Gauthier was the most recent to make his intentions public.
Defensive tackle D’Andre Martin made his transfer plans official on Saturday, as well, thanking the fan base on his way out.
Wide receiver Kylic Horton had a message for the Gamecocks, as well, including a special shoutout to the Williams-Brice environment on Saturdays.
Defensive tackle Felix Hixon made sure to give South Carolina football fans lots of love as he also announced his transfer portal intentions.
Over the next several days, more transfer portal announcements will come, both from names that have already been reported as leaving the roster and from some new names.
The Gamecock coaching staff has dispensed several offers to graduate transfer players already, and once the portal officially opens on Monday, they will send out a whole lot more to underclassmen who plan on leaving their current situations.
South Carolina football fans should be on the lookout for their team to make a lot of transfer splashes. Wide receiver, running back, and offensive line all could be in line to receive at least one transfer, and the Gamecocks will be open to taking almost any good player on the other side of the ball as they try to improve their defense.
