Lamont Paris’ South Carolina basketball team beat the George Washington Revolutionaries handily at Colonial Life Arena on Friday night. The 22-point smackdown was a nice revenge game for the Gamecocks after last year’s squad lost by 24 in Washington DC.

This game was a special one for the offense as the team set a South Carolina basketball record with 18 made 3-pointers. 13 of those outside shots came courtesy of Meechie Johnson (5), BJ Mack (4), and Ta’Lon Cooper (4).

As a whole, the Gamecocks shot really well, shooting 50% from the floor and 51.4% from the behind the arc.

However, where the Gamecocks really separated themselves from the Revs was in the way they didn’t allow GW to separate them from the basketball. The Gamecocks had 3 (!!!) turnovers for the entire game, and all three of them were in the game’s first 13 minutes. That means for 27 minutes to end the game, South Carolina basketball had 0 giveaways. That is winning basketball.

Carolina lost the rebounding battle, but they kept the margin close against an athletic George Washington team.

It was a very good overall effort against a pretty good Revs team that was off to its best start in almost a decade. Speaking of good starts, the 7-0 Gamecocks have not been 7-0 since the 2016-2017 season when they made the Final Four.
