BOX SCORE

OBSERVATIONS

  • Starters: Ta’Lon Cooper-Meechie Johnson-Myles Stute-BJ Mack-Stephen Clark
    • As is typical, Clark exited early and didn’t return until the start of the 2nd half.
  • Meechie Johnson started off hot again, scoring 10 points in the 1st half.
  • George Washington outrebounded Carolina in a big way early. Solid positioning and better box out effort gave the Revolutionaries a 21-14 advantage on the glass.
  • The Gamecocks could do nothing with Darren Buchanon in the 1st half. The combo forward beat USC’s wings, he beat their forwards, and he beat their centers. He went off for 12 points and 6 rebounds in the opening 20 minutes, but it felt like more. Trey Autry added 12 points of his own as the Revolutionaries’ top-2 scorers handled all but 10 of their team’s scoring in the 1st half.
    • After halftime, Buchanon had 6 and Autry had 3.
    • James Bishop went off for the Revs in the 2nd half, but he was the only real offensive threat as the Gamecocks were much better on defense.
  • South Carolina shot very well from behind the 3-point arc, and that hot shooting was the reason for their nice lead at halftime.
  • The 2nd half saw BJ Mack and Meechie Johnson take over. They combined for 27 points after halftime.
  • The rebounding margin from the 1st half was not present in the 2nd. Carolina won the battle by 3 after halftime.
  • Despite not scoring, Stephen Clark had his best game of the season. He grabbed 5 rebounds and blocked 2 shots in just 8 minutes on the floor.
  • The Gamecocks set a new South Carolina basketball program record with 18 3-pointers.
  • The Gamecocks never trailed.
  • Collin Murray-Boyles was in uniform for the first time despite practicing for the first time on Wednesday. He got in late with the Gamecocks comfortably ahead and scored his first basket as a college player.
