OBSERVATIONS
- Starters: Raven Johnson-Te-Hina Paopao-Bree Hall-Chloe Kitts-Kamilla Cardoso
- Paopao was back from her one-game absence due to an ankle injury. Tessa Johnson remained out.
- The Gamecocks started off with a much more aggressive offensive focus after a slow start last game. Having Paopao back helped with the shooting struggles, as well.
- Bree Hall did some good things but struggled to put the ball in the basket despite leading the team in shot attempts in the 1st quarter.
- In the 1st half, MiLaysia Fulwiley was the only guard to play off the bench as she was the only one available with Johnson out, but Ashlyn Watkins and Sania Feagin both played early in the post.
- The team’s non-guards passed the ball well. Wing Bree Hall, center Kamilla Cardoso, and forward Sania Feagin combined for 5 of the team’s first 8 assists.
- Carolina didn’t commit their first foul (Cardoso loose ball foul going after a rebound) until the 7:30 mark of the 2nd quarter.
- The scoring and rebounding load was spread out pretty evenly in the first half. 5 Gamecocks had at least 7 points (Paopao, Cardoso, Johnson, Watkins, and Fulwiley), and 5 had at least 4 rebounds (Paopao, Cardoso, Johnson, Watkins, and Kitts).
- Free throw shooting still isn’t quite good enough.
- Raven Johnson looked like she could flirt with a rare quadruple-double. About halfway through the 3rd quarter, she had 12 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals. She didn’t play past that point.
- The Gamecock defense was ridiculous, holding Mississippi Valley State to 6 points, 6 points, 4 points, and 3 points in the 4 quarters of play.
- Every Gamecock scored, and every Gamecock had multiple rebounds.
- 19 points is the fewest points allowed in South Carolina basketball history.
