South Carolina Basketball vs. Grand Canyon:
3 Thumbs Down

South Carolina Gamecocks. REBOUNDING . Thumbs Down. The Gamecocks did not rebound well against Grand Canyon. Meechie Johnson had 6 boards, but other than that, no South Carolina basketball player had more than 3 rebounds. The only knock on BJ Mack’s game was his lack of rebounding (just 3 boards for #2), and Stephen Clark continues to drop rebounds when he gets a hand on them. There probably weren’t enough minutes given to Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk and Josh Gray, but even so, USC has to be better on the glass moving forward. Getting outrebounded 23-30 by a smaller Grand Canyon team is unacceptable..

Thumbs Down. The Gamecocks struggled to hold onto the basketball again on Sunday. 9 1st half turnovers allowed Grand Canyon to stay in the game, and a number of dropped rebounds throughout the game might as well have been turnovers. The 2nd half was much better in terms of traditional turnovers, but a 9-turnover half against a better team could dig a hole too big for the Gamecocks to climb out of.. . South Carolina Gamecocks. BUTTERFINGERS

Thumbs Down. In a game that saw the officials swallow their whistles far too often, South Carolina basketball was still in foul trouble. BJ Mack, Myles Stute, and Stephen Clark all reached 4 fouls, and Josh Gray, Zach Davis, and Ta’Lon Cooper all had 3. Because of the high number of fouls, GCU got to shoot 27 free throws. There were also a couple of offensive fouls that don’t grant free throws but count as turnovers. The officials were not great on Sunday, but the Gamecocks complained too often to the men in white and black stripes, and Myles Stute even got whistled for a technical foul. USC will need to clean some of that up before playing Notre Dame next Tuesday.. . South Carolina Gamecocks. LITTLE MINUTES, BIG EFFORT
