South Carolina Football players who might not return in 2024:
Quarterback Spencer Rattler

It may seem hard to believe, but quarterback Spencer Rattler could return to school in 2024 if he wanted. Rattler redshirted in 2019, can retroactively use his “Covid redshirt” for 2020, and played in 2021, 2022, and 2023, using three of his four active years of eligibility.

However, it is the long shot of all long shots that Spencer Rattler is part of the South Carolina football team next season.

The Gamecock signal-caller has been projected as high as a 1st round NFL Draft pick and is expected to be selected sometime in the top half of April’s draft. Rattler helped out his draft stock tremendously by returning to school this past offseason, but there isn’t much upward mobility left for #7’s draft stock.

Despite playing just two seasons in Columbia, Rattler will finish his career in the top-10 of several career South Carolina football passing records, and he has a chance to set the single-season yardage mark with a strong finish to this season as he is 709 yards away from Dylan Thompson’s single-season USC record.

Gamecock fans believe their favorite team has its quarterback of the future in LaNorris Sellers, so the hope is that the dropoff in quarterback play from this year to next won’t be as big as many on the outside think it will.
