South Carolina Football: Nation’s top prospect calls Gamecock visit “amazing”
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football fans could use some good news. 2023 has been a tough season for the Gamecocks, and this past Saturday saw USC barely beat Jacksonville State.
The 2024 recruiting class is shaping up to be a good one (potentially a great one), but some good news in future recruiting made the rounds on Monday.
Originally reported by 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong, the top prospect in the class of 2025 (5-star offensive tackle David Sanders) had an “amazing” visit to Columbia this past weekend. Sanders and his family were in town as one of just a handful of visiting families. It is worth noting that he and his family also called his Georgia visit and Michigan visit “amazing.”
Because of the small visitor list, South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer and his staff were able to communicate clearly that Sanders is a massive priority recruit for the Gamecocks.
The Charlotte, North Carolina native is considering a “who’s who” of college football along with USC. Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, North Carolina, Michigan, and Ohio State join South Carolina football as the favorites in the David Sanders sweepstakes.
As a player, Sanders is as talented as one can imagine a high school junior offensive lineman to be. He has elite athleticism and feet, meaning he has the potential to become one of the best pass blockers in the country. He is also a strong run blocker, as well, as he routinely moves on to the second and third level to continue clearing a path for ball carriers.
In recent recruiting classes, the Gamecocks have brought in a number of blue chip offensive linemen. In the 2023 class, 4-stars Markee Anderson, Tree Babalade, and Tro Baugh joined the program (Babalade and Baugh have started half of this season as true freshmen), and the ’24 class is set to bring in 5-star Josiah Thompson and 4-stars Kam Pringle and Blake Franks.
Even with six high-level prospects in the last two classes, David Sanders would be the highest-rated South Carolina football commitment since Jadeveon Clowney in 2011 if he were to join the class.
