BOX SCORE

OBSERVATIONS

  • Starters: Ta’Lon Cooper-Meechie Johnson-Myles Stute-BJ Mack-Stephen Clark
  • Collin Murray-Boyles was out with an illness (mono) and could miss significant time.
  • Josh Gray struggled with his hands in the first half and didn’t stay on the court long. With Gray playing limited minutes, Carolina didn’t block a shot until slkfsdlkfjskfj
  • USC started 0-9 from 3-point land.
  • Carolina had three different scoring droughts of at least 2 1/2 minutes in the first half.
  • Backup point guard Morris Ugusuk was the only freshman to play in the first half.
  • No guards scored in the first 20 minutes. Meechie Johnson, Ta’Lon Cooper, Jacobi Wright, and Morris Ugusuk were scoreless in the 1st half, combining to go 0-12 and 0-6 from 3.
  • The wings (Myles Stute and Zach Davis) combined to go 2-7, and the bigs (BJ Mack, Stephen Clark, Josh Gray, and Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk) went 4-11.
  • The second half started with a 9-0 Carolina run to bring the deficit to a more manageable number. They shot 8-18 from 3-point land in the 2nd half after starting 1-12.
  • The Gamecock defense improved (and, consequently, the Wofford shooting regressed), and USC charged back in the first half of the second period.
  • For the game, Meechie Johnson couldn’t score, literally. A 2-point night saw him shoot 0-8 from the field and 0-7 from 3, but he did have some good moments as a ball-handler and distributor from the shooting guard spot. He did not play much down the stretch but was inserted on the last defensive possession and picked up a big steal and free throws to seal the game.
  • USC had just 3 forced turnovers in the first half but took the ball away from Wofford 9 times in the second.
  • South Carolina basketball protected the basketball very well most of the night. 6 turnovers is a very nice effort.
  • Though he had a few steals, BJ Mack’s defensive effort wasn’t spectacular in the second half, and it appeared that Coach Paris benched him down the stretch.
  • Starters BJ Mack, Stephen Clark, and Meechie Johnson did not play much in the last 10 minutes of the game.
  • 7 different Gamecocks played at least 18 minutes (Myles Stute, BJ Mack, Jacobi Wright, Meechie Johnson, Zach Davis, Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk, and Ta’Lon Cooper). Only Stute played 30 minutes.
  • BBV led the Gamecocks in +/- as he provided some hustle and rebounding that was lacking at times with the other big men.
  • Myles Stute, though he started at the 3, played some 4 with Mack and Clark not playing much in the second half.
