South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer was visibly very upset after this past Saturday’s game against the Florida Gators. Rightfully or not, his frustrated postgame comments were criticized because he called out his players for not executing before he mentioned coaching failures.
Beamer’s frustration, though, spilled over into an incident that the Gamecock head coach called “stupid,” during his Tuesday press conference.
According to Beamer, he kicked “something he should not have kicked” after the “gut-wrenching, emotional loss.” Beamer did not share what he kicked or when exactly it happened, but he did confirm that he broke a bone in his foot.
The South Carolina football headman downplayed the idea that he lost his cool or couldn’t control himself by saying it happened because “I care…I care about these kids, and I was really upset on Saturday night because I didn’t do enough to help them get over the hump and win the game.”
He joked that he was “very probable” for the game against Missouri on Saturday and that he will not be taking any pain medicine so as to avoid making bad decisions like “faking punts from the two-yard line.”
For this weekend’s contest, Beamer’s Gamecocks are between a 7-point and 9-point underdog depending on which betting outlet one checks.
Missouri presents a challenge that will force South Carolina football to adapt defensively. Luther Burden, who currently leads the SEC in receiving yards, lines up in the slot more than any other spot on the field. Man coverage in the slot has been one of the biggest issues for the Gamecock defense all season and is a big reason why USC ranks 130th out of 130 teams in pass defense.
If things don’t get better for the garnet and black soon, Coach Beamer won’t be the only one in Gamecock Nation who kicks something out of frustration.
