One of the top quarterback prospects in the class of 2025 is Ohio native Ryan Montgomery. Montgomery has been a major target for the South Carolina football program, and over the past couple of months, the 4-star gunslinger has made his interest in the Gamecocks well-known.

In August, Montgomery named his top-5 teams, and Shane Beamer’s South Carolina football team made the cut along with Penn State, Michigan, Florida, and Georgia. The Gamecocks have a quarterback committed in the class of 2024 (4-star Dante Reno) and 2026 (4-star Landon Duckworth), and they are hoping Montgomery will be the team’s pledge in 2025.

247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong reported last week that Montgomery will be on campus to see the Gamecocks take on the Florida Gators, and that news has been confirmed by several outlets since then. Wiltfong also reported that Montgomery plans to take a visit to Auburn (a team that is not listed as a finalist) later in October.

Montgomery, who recently broke future Pro Football Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger’s single-game passing yards record for the state of Ohio, is heavily considering Florida, as well, so this visit will also allow him another opportunity to check out the Gators even though he will spend most of his weekend with the Gamecocks.

Montgomery is one of the most accurate passers in the country for the ’25 cycle. Proving this, earlier this year, he won the accuracy award at the Under Armour Future 50 camp. The 6’3″ passer has a strong arm, as well, and he has enough athleticism to move around effectively in the pocket.

The Findlay High School product currently is not considering Ohio State, but his older brother Luke is a freshman in Columbus. That, along with the pull of the home-state Buckeyes, makes OSU a dark horse for Montgomery’s services despite their exclusion from his top-5. Auburn also getting a visit this month likely creates a pseudo top-7.

Montgomery will be on campus at the same time as 2025 3-star tight end Marshall Pritchett, 2024 4-star athlete Jalewis Solomon (a recent Auburn decommit), 2024 4-star EDGE (and Southern Cal commitment) Kameryn Fountain, and a handful of other prospects.
