South Carolina Football: 4-star committed to “other USC” visiting this weekend
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer and his staff don’t give up on recruiting players just because they make a verbal commitment to another school. Players on the current Gamecock roster like quarterback LaNorris Sellers, quarterback Tanner Bailey, and linebacker Stone Blanton were all once committed to other schools.
In the class of 2024, South Carolina football is hopeful to persuade a few more recruits to flip their commitments to the Gamecocks.
One of these currently committed targets is Georgia native Kameryn Fountain. Fountain, a 4-star EDGE prospect, is committed to Southern Cal, but he has made it known that he is not done taking visits. Because Fountain has not shown any desire to shut down his recruitment, the Gamecocks (and other programs) still believe they have a shot at landing the talented pass rusher.
In fact, according to a report from GamecockCentral’s Chris Clark, Fountain will be on campus this weekend to check out the South Carolina football program for the Gamecocks’ contest against the Florida Gators.
As a player, Fountain has played both with his hand in the dirt as a traditional defensive end and as a stand-up EDGE rusher. He is a plus-athlete who uses his 6’5″, 240-pound frame on the basketball court, as well.
Long and quick, Fountain uses his athletic gifts to beat offensive tackles. He has not needed to show much in terms of pass rush technique and moves, so it remains to be seen how he will adjust to higher-level competition. When chasing plays down from the backside, Fountain has shown himself to be a capable pursuit player and an impressive tackler.
Fountain will be in Columbia at the same time as 2025 targets Ryan Montgomery (4-star QB) and recently-offered Marshall Pritchett (3-star TE), fellow 2024 flip candidate Jalewis Solomon (4-star ATH), and several other prospects.
