In recent weeks, South Carolina football fans have speculated their favorite team could be in line to receive some recruiting “flips” as several committed targets are believed to have recruitments that are less than settled. Current Gamecock quarterback commitment Dante Reno even tweeted out that it was “flip season.”

Big-time targets like Kameryn Fountain (4-star EDGE, Southern Cal), Braylon Staley (4-star WR, Tennessee), and Jalewis Solomon (4-star ATH, Auburn) are some of the biggest names who have been placed on “flip watch” by Gamecock fans.

South Carolina football fans (and the coaching staff) felt like they were in a good position to land 4-star athlete Jalewis Solomon when the Georgia native announced his commitment in August. However, with a late push, the Auburn Tigers snagged Solomon’s commitment from the Gamecock coaching staff.

Things shifted once again on Tuesday, however, as Solomon decommitted from Auburn.

Solomon backing off of his Auburn pledge doesn’t come as a massive surprise. For most of his recruitment, South Carolina and Florida State were the clear leaders. Auburn didn’t emerge until late in the process.

About two weeks ago, Solomon sent the recruiting world into a frenzy when he tweeted out “Ain’t over yet.” He didn’t offer an explanation for the message, but most assumed the talented wide receiver/defensive back was talking about his recruitment. Based on the developments from Tuesday night, it appears those assumptions were correct.

Solomon was recruited most heavily as a defensive back, but his film shows some strong ability on the offensive side of the football, as well. His multi-faceted game has earned him the distinction of being the top uncommitted athlete in the class of 2024 according to On3.

Several weeks before his commitment to Auburn, Solomon had named a top-5 of Auburn, South Carolina, Florida State, Kentucky, and Texas A&M. Just days before the announcement, he indicated that South Carolina and Auburn were the top teams in the running for his services.

South Carolina football fans are feeling optimistic that Solomon will elect to go with the garnet and black this time around.
