South Carolina Football: Gamecock graduate returning for Homecoming as part of broadcast team
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football will take on the Florida Gators this weekend in front of a sold-out Williams-Brice Stadium. The 4-2 Gators and 2-3 Gamecocks are both in desperate need of a win to reach bowl eligibility as both programs will be underdogs in the majority of their games the rest of the way this season.
The game will be played at 3:30 and will be broadcast on the SECNetwork and ESPN app.
The annual “Steve Spurrier Bowl” will carry an undertone of revenge as the Gamecocks were smacked around by the Gators last season by a score of 38-6, a game that saw South Carolina’s special teams score their only touchdown of the afternoon.
This weekend’s matchup between Carolina and Florida will be the last one for at least a couple of years as the dissolution of divisions in the SEC has left the USC-UF game off of the schedule in 2024. Whether the rivalry will be picked back up in 2025 has not yet been determined.
On Tuesday, South Carolina football SID Steve Fink revealed that the SECNetwork had chosen the broadcast team for the game, and for what is South Carolina football’s homecoming game, a Gamecock grad has received the assignment.
Alyssa Lang will serve as the sideline reporter and will be joined by play-by-play man Taylor Zarzour and color analyst Matt Stinchcomb.
Lang is a University of South Carolina graduate and has become a rising star on the SECNetwork. She is part of popular shows like SEC Now, Out of Pocket, and Thinking Out Loud and is one of the network’s top contributors as a studio and sideline contributor. She has also filled in for Paul Finebaum on The Paul Finebaum Show.
This will not be Lang’s first time working a South Carolina football game, but returning to her alma mater for Homecoming will be special.
Lang, while a consummate professional on camera, will be rooting silently for her Gamecocks to bring home the win on Homecoming.
