South Carolina football fans have shown up and shown out for their favorite team this season. In two home games against Furman and Mississippi State, the Gamecock Faithful have filled Williams-Brice Stadium to capacity. Even at the neutral site game in Charlotte against North Carolina, USC fans dominated the crowd.
The trend is set to continue next week as a release from gamecocksonline.com reveals a sellout for Carolina’s next home game and the kick time for the game.
After a bye this Saturday, the South Carolina football team will welcome the Florida Gators to Columbia next weekend for an SEC East matchup. The game will be played at 3:30 on the SECNetwork and ESPN App.
Selling out Williams-Brice Stadium has been the norm throughout South Carolina football history, but the attendance numbers are even better than usual during the Shane Beamer era in Columbia. Despite erroneous reports from former The State reporter Ben Portnoy, USC sold out every game of the 2022 season except for the hurricane-adjusted contest with South Carolina State.
Next Saturday’s game against the Gators will be the last time the two teams play for at least a short while. The 2024 SEC schedule was released this summer, and South Carolina and Florida will not play each other for the first time since 1991. No news has been released about any SEC football schedules for 2025 and beyond.
Florida is 3-2 on the year (1-1 in the SEC), but they have lost both of their road games this season, trips to Utah and Kentucky. UF will likely be 4-2 (2-1 in the SEC) after next week as they have a home matchup with Vanderbilt before coming to Columbia. South Carolina football is 2-3 (1-2 in the SEC), but the Gamecocks are 2-0 at home this season heading into their bye week.
Both teams will be desperate for a win in their fights for bowl eligibility. South Carolina still has a tough schedule remaining despite needing 4 more victories, while Florida finishes their season with 4 out of 5 games being against ranked opponents, including two against top-5 Georgia and Florida State.
