South Carolina Basketball: 4-star target announces commitment
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina basketball received its first commitment in the class of 2025 earlier this week when Hayden Assemian (4-star forward; Greenville, SC) made his public pledge to Lamont Paris and the Gamecock program.
Carolina had their first 2024 commitment go public in April when forward Okku Federiko announced that he would be joining his Finnish teammate Morris Ugusuk (true freshman 3-star guard) in Columbia.
Paris’ South Carolina basketball program will be looking to add several more players to the ’24 class to help alleviate the significant losses (at least four seniors) that the Gamecocks will experience this offseason.
One Gamecock target has been Charlotte native Bishop Boswell. The 4-star point guard announced a top-6 in July that included South Carolina basketball, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Georgia, Missouri, and Xavier.
On Thursday, Boswell made his college decision public, and it did not go like Gamecock fans would have hoped. In fact, Boswell decided to pledge his services to a USC rival in the SEC.
Bishop Boswell, ranked 69th in the country according to ESPN, announced his commitment to Rick Barnes’ Tennessee program.
In a surprising move, South Carolina basketball didn’t even make an appearance on Boswell’s table. Hats for Tennessee, Georgia, Missouri, Xavier, and Wake Forest were in front of him when he made his decision, but a garnet and black hat was nowhere to be found. As of now, there has been no indication as to why that might be.
Boswell is a high school teammate of fellow South Carolina basketball target Sadiq “AJ” White.
4-star guards KJ Greene and Elijah Crawford are two major Gamecock targets who could be realistic gets for South Carolina. Greene is a Columbia-area native who now plays in Atlanta, while Crawford is an Augusta native who spent some of his high school career playing in Greenville. USC will lose at least guard this offseason as Ta’Lon Cooper is in his final season of eligibility.
