South Carolina football head coach Shane Beamer speaks to the media multiple times every week. Between a Sunday teleconference, a Tuesday press conference, and Thursday nights’ Carolina Calls shows, the Gamecock headman gets asked about the injuries in his programs at least three times a week.

This week, parts of the report have changed a bit as gameday has neared.

Beamer revealed early in the week that starting slot receiver Ahmarean Brown was not practicing as he recovered from a hamstring injury that he suffered against Furman in week 2.

However, during Thursday’s update during Carolina Calls, Beamer included Brown among a group of players who were held out last week but who are now “available” for Saturday’s contest against Mississippi State.

If Brown can go contribute on Saturday, that will help a receiver group that is without its top player Juice Wells. Brown leads the team in missed tackles forced despite missing all of the Georgia game, about half of the Furman win, and parts of the North Carolina contest. Adding his speed and quickness back into the lineup could be a big deal for the Gamecock offense.

Projected preseason starter at defensive end JT Geer has not played yet this season with an undisclosed injury that he suffered during a team scrimmage in August. According to Beamer, Geer will be available to play on Saturday, and the Syracuse transfer has been listed as a potential starter each week on the depth chart.

Reserve defensive end Tyreek Johnson missed last week’s game despite not being listed on the injury report, but Coach Beamer said that he is also available for tonight’s game against Mississippi State.

Offensive lineman Markee Anderson was labeled “out for the season” earlier this week with a knee injury. Fellow offensive lineman Cason Henry will remain out this week, according to his head coach, but the big man could resume physical activity this week.

Jaylen Nichols, another offensive lineman was referred to as “out for the season” by Carolina Calls host Todd Ellis, but Beamer did not comment on the accuracy of the claim.

South Carolina football will kick off at Williams-Brice Stadium against Mississippi State at 7:30 on the SECNetwork and ESPN App.
