South Carolina Football great Alshon Jeffery’s most ridiculous statistics:
A Freshman Year That Started at the Halfway Point

Many South Carolina football fans don’t remember that Alshon Jeffery didn’t play that much in the early goings of his freshman season. In fact, he wasn’t the most productive freshman receiver on the 2009 team through the first half of the year. Redshirt freshman Tori Gurley had almost 300 yards receiving through five games while Jeffery had 3 catches for less than 40 yards.

In his sixth collegiate game, however, the Saint Matthews, South Carolina native exploded against the Kentucky Wildcats with 138 yards and 3 touchdowns to kick start an elite stretch of play to finish his first year in garnet and black.

In the last seven games of the 2009 regular season, Jeffery caught 38 passes for 674 yards and 5 touchdowns en route to a Freshman All-American selection. That pace was just behind the pace he set in his record-setting 2010 season and was even better than his junior season in 2011. Had Jeffery been utilized as frequently that entire season as he was the rest of his career, he would have blown away every number in the Gamecock football record books.

His freshman statistics are records for Gamecock rookies even with the delayed start.
