South Carolina Football: 5 players whose stock is rising for the Gamecocks
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina Football players whose stock is up:
Quarterback LaNorris Sellers
LaNorris Sellers has played in just one game so far in 2023, so his inclusion on this list might seem strange. However, his debut against Furman was so impressive that many Gamecocks fans were talking more about Sellers than they were about Spencer Rattler who went a preposterous 25-27 passing for 345 yards and 4 total touchdowns.
Whether or not Sellers will redshirt this season will be a big determiner in his overall level of contribution this fall, but his future is outrageously bright either way. What Sellers did against the Furman Paladins is what the Gamecocks see almost every practice in Columbia as he has one of the strongest arms in college football and runs a 40-yard dash in the 4.4-second range.
The bespectacled #16 is special and has almost single-handedly been responsible for the way many fans have forgotten about other 4-star quarterbacks on the roster like Luke Doty, Tanner Bailey, and Colten Gauthier.
If deployed as a wildcat quarterback on occasion, Sellers could help the Gamecocks right now in one of their biggest offensive weaknesses. South Carolina has really struggled to run the football, and Sellers is a natural runner, and his 240-pound frame can hold up to the physicality of the SEC.
Sellers’ playing status the next two weeks against Mississippi State and Tennessee likely will be indicative as to whether he will play consistently this season or if he will be on the path to a redshirt. Either way, the Gamecocks’ quarterback future is in good hands with Sellers.
