South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer spoke to Gamecock Nation on Thursday during his weekly “Carolina Calls” show. As usual, one of the major topics of conversation during this press availability was the Gamecocks’ injury situation.
None of the players who were called questionable during Beamer’s Sunday afternoon teleconference received much of an update on their status for this Saturday’s game against the Georgia Bulldogs.
Wide receiver Ahmarean Brown, safety Nick Emmanwori, defensive back David Spaulding, defensive back Keenan Nelson, offensive lineman JonDarius Morgan, and running back Bradley Dunn are all still being called questionable for the contest. Beamer did go as far as to say that Emmanwori and Spaulding are “not 100%” but are “good to go” for South Carolina football in Athens.
In a slight surprise, two players who were labeled “probable” on Sunday will not see the field this weekend. Freshman offensive lineman Markee Anderson and Syracuse transfer defensive end Jatius Geer are officially out and will not play on Saturday.
Anderson and Geer are joined on the list of the not dressing by players with longer-term injuries like offensive linemen Jaylen Nichols, Ryan Brubaker, and Cason Henry.
Beamer was asked about the status of star wide receiver Antwane “Juice” Wells who has played in both South Carolina football games but has been extremely limited in both availability and effectiveness as he has dealt with a foot/toe injury since the summer. On Thursday, however, Coach Beamer said there would be “zero” limitation for Wells against the Bulldogs.
On the Georgia side of things, preseason All-SEC wide receiver Ladd McConkey has not played so far in 2023 but could make his debut on Saturday. Another preseason All-SEC selection, safety Javon Bullard, has an ankle injury and is in danger of missing the game.
The Gamecocks and Bulldogs will kick off at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia at 3:30 on CBS.
