South Carolina football fans sold out Williams-Brice Stadium for the season opener against Furman this past weekend. Before the 7:30 kickoff, Gamecock mascot Cocky revealed a brand new entrance, riding in on a Cockaboose. The night atmosphere was raucous despite the FCS opponent, and USC won in convincing fashion, 47-21.

The Gamecocks play at Georgia this weekend, and the game will kick at 3:30 and be aired on CBS.

Next weekend, however, South Carolina football returns home for their second SEC contest against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. On Monday, the Gamecocks announced the kickoff time and television information for the matchup.

At 7:30 on the SECNetwork and ESPN App, South Carolina football and the Mississippi State Bulldogs will take the field in front of what is sure to be another sellout.

Last week, when the University of South Carolina announced the Furman game as a sellout, they also announced that the Mississippi State contest only had a smattering of single tickets available.

According to Justin King, the University of South Carolina’s Associate Athletic Director of New and Creative Media, this night kick against MSU is the Gamecocks’ 19th home game at night since the start of the shortened 2020 season. In that same time frame, the Gamecocks have had just five day games at Williams-Brice Stadium. Clearly, the networks want the Gamecocks in prime time.

With South Carolina football likely sitting at 1-2 heading into the Mississippi State game (they are currently 1-1 and big underdogs on the road against Georgia this Saturday), the game against Zach Arnett’s team could be a major determiner of this season’s success.

If the Gamecocks can beat the Bulldogs, they will be 2-2 and through two of six games of their toughest stretch of the season. A road trip to Knoxville to face the Tennessee Volunteers, a home contest against Florida, a road game in the other Columbia to play Missouri, and a final road test against Texas A&M precede four straight home games against Jacksonville State, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Clemson to end the year.

Shane Beamer’s South Carolina football team will need the Gamecock Faithful to show up and make a difference next Saturday night to help shape the season and point it forward with positive momentum.
